k brown wrote:Agree about the numbers around the knobs - unfortunately they are an inherent part of the knobs' bitmap images, so can't be changed.

When I've used them on solid-color panels, I block out every other number with same-color ellipses, and/or darken the numbers with a same-color ring over the numbers with a low alpha, to darken them a bit. none of this is practical with the wood-grain photo background.

I'm experimenting with an alternate GUI for "the V-Suite" that has solid-color panels, so I can apply these 'clutter-reducing' tricks.

I see what you mean :| problematic with the animated shadow...
You're in need of a entirely new knob and with slightly better resolution I guess.

Well, had to test atleast...

Keeping quarter marker numbers didn't look good. Keeping min, mid, max... slightly better...

Have any real life favorite knob on any synth?

Such a long time ago since I made anything in 3D, but maybe I can make a new unique knob.

Unsure how to build sprite maps of rendered frames though :) Maybe there's some free software out the, usually is...

- 'V-Strings' (Martin's 'String Orchestra') given it's own module (was a page 2 of the first Spread Partials module).

- Connecting lines from EGs to their amount controls.

- GUI taller for more space between sections within modules.

- FX module/knobs different color. I really want to keep it on the main page; don't care for having to toggle to FX if I don't need to. The FX module view toggles to the Mod Matrix (which I don't mind as much).

- The Pad Oscillator is a page 2 of the second Spread Partials (and cross-fades with it).

This is the 'experimental' GUI, with the numbers darkened on the small knobs, and every other number blocked out on the large ones.

Not to tease you, just my honest first impression. That blue harmonizes so much better with the yellow tinted knobs and sliders! It calms my eyes immediately. Offer it as an alternative skin, if possible. I would really prefer it over the brown wood!

I need to try a lighter tone - the black chicken head knobs don't stand out enough.

So, to answer the question after all this babbling: Studio One is a DAW, where you don't need a manual.

I find that very surprising and quite remarkable!
I guess they have the luxury of starting with a clean sheet and, combined with knowledge and insight into the actual creative process, have put much thought and effort into getting the workflow right.

Just to add a little spice to it: Studio One was first released 14 years ago in 2009. It is not a newcomer ;)
(However, FL Studio is almost double as old, 25 years)

Definately easier on the eyes as single color. But it lost it's steampunk/marine-feel as well

Any theme is entirely a matter of taste of course...
