The Quilcom Rank Two for reed and flue pipe sounds

Hello all!

Here is my Quilcom Rank Two.

The original Quilcom Rank was designed around the simulation of flue pipes. Following on from feedback from Hugh Banton and Colin Pykett I came to realise that reed pipes behave and sound very different to flue pipes. A flue pipe cannot properly create the sound of a bright trumpet stop for example. You need a range of higher harmonics, and often reed pipes display a certain “buzziness” which gives character to many sounds.

To achieve this, the Rank two has two separate generators, one each for flue and reed pipes.

Additionally you can now control the voicing for each and every pipe (note) via a graphical system, and also the stereo pan position for each pipe.

The included user guide goes into detail about the operation and background.

I hope you enjoy playing with my big organ!

Cheers

Dear Spogg

Your Quilcom series is one of the best vst's I am using, because your simulations are not only excellents, but they also teach us how the sounds of these instruments are produced.

I was wondering if you ever intended to propose other presets for the Rank Two...

In some years of use I have only created one or two that really satisfy me, and yours are very inspiring... I’m sure you must have created others that you didn’t put on the official list?

Thank you so much for those nice words! :D

I always include all the presets I make for any project. My philosophy on presets is to provide starting points only from which a user can make small or large variations to suit their needs. I take the view that if I made loads of subtle variations that the list might be overwhelming. I find this myself if I try out a new synth and there are many “BASS” presets for example which are very similar.

Dear Spogg
Thank you for your answer!
I understand your approach, which I thank you for— But it is very difficult, when you are a simple amateur and a modest musician to become a real acoustician or luthier to be able to master the sounds of an instruments like you, and even better, to be able to create a virtual reproduction...
I just have to found a blog in honor of your "Big Organ" to gather those who would like to share their sounds with me ;) ;) ;)
