Quilcom SIM-SHENG: An ancient Chinese mouth organ!

Hello to all my FlowStone friends! :D

Someone on YouTube (I think) suggested I should have a go at simulating a Chinese sheng and, as is often the case, I’d never heard of such an instrument.
What followed was a fascinating journey down the sheng rabbit hole, learning all sorts of stuff about this weird and ancient “mouth organ” and its relatives. I was lucky to be able to buy a broken one on eBay for £50 to get the free-reed pipe sound as good as I could.
The result is my synthesis-based SIM-SHENG with lots of PDFs and links in the Background info folder so you can investigate this class of instruments for yourself.

Here’s my YouTube video:

You can download the zip containing all the usual stuff here:

Have fun!

Here is a panoramic version of it. I made only a few small changes. I need a way to make it more expressive. To fade the volume in and out using a fake mod wheel but without having to connect a midi controller.

Moderator comment: This file is made in an alpha version of FS4. If you wish to post schematics made in an alpha please give warning because it can cause issues for people trying to open it in FS3.

An interesting rearrangement of the front panel!

I always make the assumption that my stuff will be used with a midi keyboard with velocity, modwheel and pitch bend wheel. I tend to avoid on-screen animations where possible due to triggering of re-draws and CPU overhead. The swell function can always be automated in the DAW of course.

I guess it's missing a Swell knob. I will try to add one later. That should work better when midi controller is not connected.
