Here's a GUI for Martin's 'randomOsc4'

Something pretty to look at while Martin's working on the '8x4' version.

I changed the name of one of the controls - I've always understood 'Tremolo' to mean a modulation of volume, not filter cutoff.

With FS 3.0.8.1
UPDATE 6/4: Refined color scheme a bit, changed octave transpose to semitone-stepped (+/-24) and added output Pan that can be modulated by the LFO.

This thing makes such beautiful and natural sounds, 'RandomOsc' doesn't quite express it - I'm thinking we should have a naming contest for it - umm, 'VicanEx'? (or does that sound too much like some sort of over-the-counter medication?) :?

And a GUI for K-S IV in a similar style.

With FS 3.0.6

@Martin - is the new version '8x4' as in, 8-note polyphony with 4 oscillators? Btw, is there any Karplus-Strong going on in 'ramdomOsc4'?

Beautiful! Thank you so much, Kevin! I am confused, it's not Christmas time yet, is it?
You are right about the name. I was thinking of "Randy" - has a remote reference to "random" but sounds a bit friendlier.

Yes, there will be a 8-note version with 4 oscs per note soon. I know that's not state of the art, I might increase that further.

Yeah - there's actually a GUI-off going with the new reverb!

So, is there Karplus-type stuff going on in 'randomOsc'? Or am I asking for 'State secrets'? :geek:

'Randy' - hmm, I fear we might start going down the rabbit hole that Spogg's 'ASS' went down!

BTW, an interesting note - 'randomOsc4' won't work with FS v3.0.5; at least not on my machine. One of my PCs had to go into the shop for a new fan, so I opened 'rndmOsc' on my other one running 3.0.5, and the presets all sound very dull and pretty much alike. Uninstalled 3.0.5 and installed 3.0.6 and all is well. What on earth could be going on there? :?: :!: .

No secrets, it is not Karplus-Strong. Although there is a link between the two schemes, and that's how I actually came to create Randy. In KS you may initialize the filter by filling it with white noise. Well, that's quite similar to creating a random wavetable on the spot. The main difference is that in Randy, the wavetable is not altered during its lifetime as opposed to KS. I found the concept is clearer this way, and I can still "make it breethe" using VCAs and VCFs with soft envelopes. (By all means, avoid the linear stock envelopes! Even exponential decay tends to die out too quickly.)

Yep, actually it is designed for FS 3.0.8.1. You may be lucky and run it sucessfully on 3.0.6.

While I was at it, I did a compact GUI for MVerb 7 in the same style - since we seem to be having an MVerb 7 GUI party around here :)

Your very kind to say so - very simple stuff using old, stock Synthmaker GUI elements; nothing like what you're up to. :geek: :)

So if this one's Randy, do we call the 8x4 version Randy Too? :)

No, just Randy. The 4x4 was just a proof of concept with no real name. I posted Randy here:

Let me know if you'd like a different 'sub-title' than "Randomness-Influenced Synthesis".

UPDATED 6/10:
-Pitch control toggles to Semitone.
-Adjustable Vibrato 'Ease-In'.
-Pan either manual or modulated by LFO.
